West Coast Swing demonstration by Melissa Rutz and me!!!

back to video gallery - back to lessons page

For those of you new to West Coast Swing, this video clip is unrehearsed and unprepared. The music you hear is one of many styles of songs that West Coast Swing dancers can dance to. All the patterns are "lead and follow", nothing is choreographed.

Not all West Coast Swing dancers look like this. That's a good thing. Unlike other dances, West Coast swing allows dancers to apply individual and unique styling without sacrificing technique and partnership skills.

This is a basic form of West Coast swing that involves minimal styling to show the fundamental elements involved within the dance. Blues music, like the one heard, is the true style of music West Coast Swing is associated to.

Blues music can be styled with lots of flare and energy but for demonstration purposes we chose to keep this basic. If you would like to see West Coast swing with more style please view the pop version of WCS in the video gallery.
