Arjay's Funny Story
Do you know what West Coast
Swing is?
I attended a Ballroom Competition at the Marriott in San Francisco last
year. Unlike Swing competitions, there isn't a lot of social dancing
in ballroom competitions. Most of the dancing is for competition and
competitors. Spectators are just that; they watch the competitions.
Anyway, while I was watching the competition from a seat fairly distant
from the dance floor, a very pleasant lady approached me and kindly
asked me to dance West Coast swing(WCS).
I was rather surprised that, although the song was good with strong
downbeats, many ballroom dancers chose to dance the more familiar (to
them) Cha Cha and, unexplainable, some East Coast Swing. The song was
much more appropriate for WCS. It was even announced as such.
We danced on the edge of the floor to avoid the flailing arms of the
Cha Cha dancers. After a wonderful dance, we walked off the floor and
I was stopped by an older gentleman who complimented me at length and
very profusely. He held me there chatting and complimenting me on style,
grace and connection with my partner. After a very lengthy flattering
monologue, he floored me with the most surprising and hilarious statement
ever......
"That was the most
wonderful and incredible CHA-CHA I've ever seen in my life!!!"
