My Goals as a Graphics Designer
I specialize in providing innovative and fresh, yet affordable,
graphic design solutions for business organizations, non-profit groups,
and individuals.
I believe that graphics design is only as important as
its ability to communicate a message visually and to integrate content
into that message. It is also important to create designs with insight
and impact.
My Vision of Graphics Design
-
Graphics that are creative and innovative
To the job of establishing a corporate identity or brand,
which includes, but is not limited to, product packaging, product documentation,
logos, stationery, posters, and media covers, I bring technical proficiency
in many areas. I use typography, print, design and motion graphics and
such tools as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Flash, Quark, Painter,
Dreamweaver, digital photography, and freehand drawing to create a message
that resonates with its intended audience.
-
Graphics that speak directly to an
audience through a balance of substance and style
My background in music and dance has taught me how to
use non-verbal tools to add visual, emotional, and psychological punch
to a message. Because music and dance are intuitive forms of communicating
and the message must be highly focused, I try to create potent messages
that speak directly to a customer, a consumer, or a client. As a musician,
dancer, teacher, competitor, and judge in events and competitions, I
have learned that an audience is more inclined to pay attention to a
message that is aimed directly at them. My experience in these fields
has also taught me the importance of focus, discipline, and balance,
qualities that are equally important in graphics.
-
Graphics with a sense of play and
humor
The creative processes in music and dance are also intimately
related to that of graphic design. Music and dance, like graphic design,
must be built around an understanding of how human beings communicate,
how they think, and what speaks to them. Graphic design, like music
and dance, must be focused on a message that fuses powerful design with
potent content. It can't be merely pretty or full of style. The message
must be built around a firm grasp of what it intends to say and the
audience it has to reach. Style can then be added to substance through
innovation, creativity, humor, and even a sense of play.
-
Graphics with impact and punch
Just as the messages of music and dance touch the soul through
a masterful use of the basics of melody, tempo, rhythm, dynamics, repetition
and contrast, balance and counterpoint, and harmony, so too, do the graphic
arts through the masterful play of light and dark, verbal and non-verbal
images, space and compression, and flight and stillness.
